“Humanity reached for the stars. Something reached back.”

Humans and oversized, speaking CATS join forces to prepare the Earth for invasion by a fleet of marauding predators. HAZZardous Duty, is the first book in the Murkatz War trilogy. The CATS have hidden their telepathic abilities until now, but their human creator will die with the rest of humanity if they don’t share their secret – and soon.

THEY are coming.  HAZZ hears THEM and I hear through HAZZ, but THEY are too arrogant to hear us.  THEY think only of killing and eating and breeding.  THEY do not suspect that we are here.  Our humans must soon know of THEIR need to kill and to breed more of THEIR kind.  Only a few have come so far, but THEY think always of THOSE coming.  The Suronese know of THEM but think THEY are trained animals of other humans.  They are fools!  Soon we must tell Quinn.  CATS and humans must fight together, or all will become food for THEM.  We begin to let Mike and Quinn know that we can think-talk.  Quinn will speak to the humans for us when it is time.  Even the foolish hurt-men must follow when they understand.

About J. E.S. Tomson

My current roommates are a diminutive, female, chocolate point Siamese named Sara, and  her companion, a flame point named Charlie.  I love animals of all kinds.  Yes, lions and tigers and bears, oh my!  Don’t forget horses and dogs – I’m sure there is another Bassett Hound out there somewhere that is supposed to come live with us.

For a long time, everything I wrote was related to teaching and learning.  Early retirement freed me to move back into the real world where children (and adults) learn from everything around them without any lesson plans.

Science fiction/fantasy fired my imagination at a young age and became a life-long passion.  DNA and “genetically modified” have become part of our everyday vocabulary in America.  The possibilities stirred my imagination way back when we hadn’t gotten much beyond dominant and recessive genes, humans have 46 chromosomes, and the structure of DNA was beginning to be unraveled. What was possible genetically? Fascinating!

There were always stories percolating in my head but there was never time to write down more than snippets. University, work, and family demanded all my attention for years. Finally there was time and some of those ideas coalesced into a future world and a first contact that is both terrifying and inspiring. The story didn’t just get written; it turned into a trilogy.  Space, humans, animals, and so many kinds of aliens occupy the universe in my head. So many stories waiting to be told. They tell them, I just write them down.

I’m a Floridian who has been temporarily living and writing in North Carolina for the past fifteen years.  I’m ready to go home.  Some stories need the sound of ocean waves and the smell of salt air to really come alive.
